KAZINFORM Kazakhstan plans to build a high-temperature gas reactor of the fourth generation, which is unparalleled in the world. This was announced at an international conference held in the Kazakh city of Kurchatov marking the 20 anniversary of the opening of Kazakhstan's National Nuclear Centre. The Kazakh side and the leaders of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency signed a memorandum of collaboration as part of the project. The conference also involved experts of the United States of America, Russia, and Japan, the press service of the Kazakh MFA said. "It is absolutely safe" explained Kairat Kadyrzhanov, General Director, Kazakhstan National Nuclear Centre, "with a minimum of radioactive waste, low-cost electricity, heat and hydrogen for vehicles that could be running on hydrogen instead of petrol. We are going to jointly launch this work."
