ALMATY. April 11. KAZINFORM Akim of Almaty Akhmetzhan Yessimov met with Speaker of the House of  Representatives of Australia Peter Slipper on Wednesday in Almaty, the Akimat's press service reported.

Yessimov pointed out the significant role of Almaty in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. He told about the new projects on tourism development in the region.

Diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Australia were established on 22 June 1992. The Australian Embassy operated in Kazakhstan in 1995-1999, the consulate of Kazakhstan worked in Australia in 1996-2003.
