Torch relay of 7th Asian Winter Games winds up in Taraz

ZHAMBYL OBLAST. January 13. KAZINFORM /Galina Skripnik/ The torch relay of the 7th Asian Winter Games is over in the Dostyk central square of the city of Taraz. Taraz is the second city after Almaty to receive the Flame of the 2011 Asian Games.

"Kazakhstan is the fourth country which holds the Asian Games, and this is not by accident. It is a merit of our President", Governor of Zhambyl oblast Kanat Bozumbayev noted before the beginning of the torch relay.

According to him, high international authority of Nursultan Nazarbayev, stability and peace in our country as well as success of the Kazakh athletes who uphold an image of Kazakhstan on the world stages played the significant role in selection of a host of the 7th Asian Winter Games.

"We hope and believe that the Flame of the Asian Games carried in the cities of Kazakhstan will inspire our sportsmen to new records", K.Bozumbayev said.

The Governor headed the torch relay in Taraz. 60 torchbearers including athletes, veterans of sport, well-known Kazakh workers of culture born in Zhambyl region participated in the Taraz torch relay.

The torch relay was finished in the Dostyk central square. Then a gala concert with participation of the Kazakh stars started.

This evening the Flame of the Asian Games will be handed to representatives of South Kazakhstan oblast.
